Working on the Bus is Generational for a Local Family at Washington Local Schools

< 1 min read

TOLEDO, Ohio-Lisa Peters, a veteran bus driver for Washington Local Schools, has been driving students for over 40 years. Her daughter, Melanie Mattox, has been a bus aide for nearly nine years, working alongside her mother. The family’s involvement in the district’s transportation department spans generations, beginning with Peters’ mother, who also drove a bus. Mattox, who enjoys interacting with students as an aide rather than driving, reflects on how the bus garage has been a significant part of her life, from childhood to her current role. Despite initially having no interest in driving, Peters eventually followed in her mother’s footsteps, and other family members, including Peters’ son and cousin, have also worked for the district.
