WHITE HOUSE, Ohio-The Anthony Wayne girls basketball team, coached by Jami Carter, had an exceptional season, winning numerous titles. Alongside coaching, Carter teaches a sports officiating class, aiming to equip students with skills to referee games and earn OHSAA licenses.
Students quickly took to officiating, finding it both enjoyable and lucrative. The popularity of the class has sparked interest from other schools in the area, considering similar offerings to address the shortage of sports officials. Carter sees this as a crucial step in replenishing the aging officiating workforce in Ohio. Despite their imperfections, Carter’s students are contributing to mitigating the referee shortage and finding their passion through officiating.
