Local Schools Address Bus Driver Shortage

< 1 min read

TOLEDO, Ohio-School districts in northwest Ohio are grappling with ongoing challenges in student transportation as a new school year approaches. Nationwide bus driver shortages are affecting local districts, prompting varied responses. Some districts are training substitutes in anticipation of future shortages, while others are taking proactive measures. For instance, Otsego Local Schools are struggling with insufficient bus drivers, particularly for after-school activities. Superintendent Kevin O’Shea of Otsego has obtained his CDL certification to personally address driver shortages. Additionally, meeting the transportation needs of private and charter schools adds complexity to the situation for districts like Perrysburg Schools, which transports students daily to multiple non-district schools as required by law.
