April 10th, 2024-ROOTSTOWN, Ohio-Ohio emergency departments are now mandated to report non-fatal drug overdoses as part of efforts to combat the overdose crisis fueled by fentanyl. Synthetic opioid deaths have more than doubled in three years, with fentanyl being the primary concern.
Local data from Portage County highlights the prevalence of fentanyl in drug-related deaths. Two high school students from Bio-Med Science Academy in Rootstown, Portage County, are raising awareness about fentanyl through a public service announcement created for a HOSA competition. The PSA aims to educate peers about the dangers of fentanyl, particularly its availability through social media and its potentially lethal doses.
