Rural Hardin County Schools Join Voucher Lawsuit

< 1 min read

KENTON, Ohio-Hardin County superintendents are concerned that Ohio’s upcoming budget challenges may force a choice between funding public schools and sustaining the state’s private-school voucher system. Despite few local children using vouchers due to the absence of private schools in the county, the universal expansion of the EdChoice voucher program raises fears about future educational funding during economic downturns. The Ohio Coalition of Equity and Adequacy of School Funding has filed a lawsuit arguing that the voucher program exacerbates inequality by diverting funds from underfunded public schools to private institutions, which lack the same transparency and accountability measures.
