MARION, Ohio-John L. Sands III, 39, of Marion, pleaded guilty to first-degree felony rape, facing up to life in prison, after abusing a 12-year-old child between May and July 2023. In exchange, other charges were dropped.
Sands provided the victim with drugs, including marijuana and methamphetamine, and attempted to groom them with gifts to conceal his actions. The abuse was reported by the victim’s mother, leading to Sands’ arrest in November. Sands will be sentenced on May 22.
