CANFIELD, Ohio-At a Canfield School Board meeting on Wednesday, no decisions were made regarding the future of the school district’s bond issue to replace and repair buildings, which was voted down for the third time. Board members discussed potential ideas but did not present any firm proposals. Board President Nader Atway emphasized that the middle school should be the top priority, as the community strongly believes it needs immediate attention. However, some voters expressed concerns about high taxes and the need for alternative funding sources. Board member Betsy Ahlquist suggested a one-percent income tax increase, but Superintendent Joe Knoll explained that income taxes wouldn’t be feasible for funding bond projects due to their variable nature, unlike property taxes which provide more stable funding.
