Community Worries About Future of Marion-Franklin High School

< 1 min read

COLUMBUS, Ohio-The future of Marion-Franklin High School is uncertain as it is being considered for closure by the Superintendent’s Community Facilities Task Force at Columbus City Schools. Located in a neighborhood on the south side, community members like Sheila Eubanks, a graduate of the school, feel the district is moving too quickly in this decision.

Eubanks mentions that Marion-Franklin was initially planned to be the first school rebuilt as a campus according to the 2022 master plan. However, Board President Christina Vera states that the master plan is still under consideration. Melanie Rawlins, a social worker at the high school, expresses concern that students might not attend if they are transferred to South High School, which is farther away, especially considering the significant barriers many students face in attending school regularly.
