Springfield Local Schools Facing Bus Driver Shortage

< 1 min read

HOLLAND, Ohio -The Springfield Local Schools district is struggling with a shortage of bus drivers, currently down by three drivers, impacting bus capacity and scheduling. With 18 drivers and no substitutes, staff members, including the director of transportation, are stepping in to drive, which affects their other responsibilities. Superintendent Matt Geha aims to add six more drivers, including substitutes, to improve the situation. Recruiting new drivers is challenging due to required training and licensing, which can take several months. The district is exploring creative solutions and facing potential further issues with upcoming retirements. Parents, like Ashley Janczewski, are frustrated by delays and scheduling issues caused by the shortage. The district is actively seeking more applicants to address the problem.
