The incident occurred when her son was caught using his phone in class and denied having it when questioned by Principal Doug Ford. After a metal detector wand indicated the presence of the phone, Ford reportedly instructed the student to drop his pants, revealing the phone hidden in his waistband. While Sargent accepts her son’s in-school suspension for the violation, she objects to the search method. The superintendent defended the principal’s actions, and the incident has been reported to the Delta Police Department, which is now under investigation.
