LAGRANGE, Ohio-The Keystone High School Principal, James Kohler, will retain his position after the Board of Education rejected the superintendent’s recommendation not to renew his contract. The board unanimously voted against the superintendent’s suggestion, ensuring Kohler’s automatic two-year contract extension if no further action is taken by June 1. Superintendent Dan White declined to comment on the board’s decision, and one board member was absent during the vote.
Board President Patricia Wakefield emphasized the importance of fostering trust within the community and urged adults to share facts rather than engage in gossip. The decision to retain Kohler followed community support demonstrated during recent board meetings, including petitions and student-led initiatives. Kohler’s most recent evaluation highlighted areas for improvement, particularly in school improvement and operations. The board now looks to move past this issue and focus on other matters, including the search for a new superintendent following White’s departure.
