Children who have had contact with Child Protective Services (CPS) are missing school at higher rates than their peers, with new research from The Ohio State University highlighting a largely overlooked attendance gap among one of the country’s most vulnerable groups. The study found that these students were more likely to miss school for both excused and unexcused reasons, face attendance-related contact between teachers and their families, and report feeling less connected to school.
