AKRON, Ohio-The Akron Public Schools board has appointed Rev. Gregory Harrison to fill an open seat, following a unanimous vote. Harrison, a well-known community figure and senior pastor at Antioch Baptist Church, has been an active participant in board meetings and a critic of the administration. He has a background as a retired police officer and has served on various local boards, including the City of Akron Racial Equity Taskforce. Harrison’s commitment to advocating for children’s rights, particularly stemming from his experiences with his own son, was highlighted in his application. Board President Diana Autry emphasized that Harrison’s community involvement and critical perspective would be beneficial for the board. He will serve the remainder of the term vacated by Job Esau Perry, ending on December 31, 2025, and will be sworn in on Monday.
