GANGER, Ohio-During the April 15 Highland Local School District Board of Education meeting, a presentation was given on the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) program, a six-week workshop aimed at parents to support children dealing with anxiety. The program, led by psychologist Deborah Mazur and mental health liaison Patricia Symons, focuses on increasing supportive responses and reducing accommodating behaviors related to anxiety.
Positive parental feedback was highlighted, demonstrating behavioral improvements and a supportive network among parents and counselors. Superintendent Catherine Aukerman reported on transportation plans for the next school year and discussed the results of the Drive a Bus event, aiming to address potential bus driver shortages. The board approved various donations, employment, resignations, and supplemental contracts. Additionally, plans for a second trip to Costa Rica for Highland High School science students were discussed, with approval already granted.
