DAYTON, Ohio-A 9-year-old girl named Ashley Escalante lost her leg after being struck by an SUV while riding her bike in a crosswalk. The incident occurred when the SUV, a 2006 Hummer H3, failed to yield and struck Ashley along with her family who were walking to buy milk. The family, including Ashley’s parents and infant twin siblings, suffered minor injuries. Ashley was hospitalized in intensive care at Miami Valley Hospital. The driver, Jeffrey Atkinson, initially fled the scene but was later arrested. He faces charges including leaving the scene of an accident and aggravated vehicular assault. Ashley’s mother expressed concern about her daughter’s recovery and future well-being.
