‘Education is What Stops Hate.’ Canton Jewish Federation Helps Stark Students

CANTON, Ohio-The second annual Day of Remembrance/Day Against Hate workshop for teens was held at Beit Ha’am, with around 80 students from Louisville, Perry, and Massillon high schools participating. Sponsored by several organizations, including the Canton Jewish Community Federation and the Anti-Defamation League, the workshop aimed to raise awareness of hate in all its forms and empower teenagers to address it.

Exercises and discussions focused on recognizing and combatting hate, with facilitators emphasizing the importance of education and understanding. Participants learned about hate crimes and genocides, shared experiences, and received “Peace Packs” with information on reporting hate crimes. The workshop encouraged students to participate in initiatives like the “Stop the Hate” essay contest and emphasized the power of individuals, particularly teenagers, in effecting positive change and promoting inclusivity. Feedback from attendees, such as Emily Sullivan and Brody Brown from Louisville High School, was positive, highlighting newfound awareness and strategies for fostering inclusivity and combating hate.
