LORAIN, Ohio-Lorain City Schools is proposing a 4.97-mill, five-year permanent improvement levy on the Nov. 5 ballot to maintain safe and well-equipped facilities for students, according to Superintendent Jeff Graham. This levy would cost homeowners approximately $174 annually per $100,000 in property value and is expected to generate $3,542,000 per year. The funds would be allocated strictly for infrastructure improvements with a lifespan of at least five years, focusing on enhancing safety in light of increasing concerns about active shooter situations. Although the district recently received a $500,000 grant for safety systems, the total repair cost is estimated at $3.2 million. Graham expressed confidence that the community will support the levy, emphasizing that children deserve safe and healthy learning environments.
