Former Hilliard Teacher helps Students find Success in Future, Careers

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Donnette Calhoon, a former journalism teacher at Hilliard High School (later Hilliard Davidson High School), taught from 1972 to 2008 and was deeply influenced by her own high school journalism teacher. She credits him for inspiring her to pursue a career in teaching journalism, and she later expressed her gratitude by sharing a letter with him, acknowledging his impact on her career. Throughout her 36-year career, Calhoon’s journalism program made a lasting impact, with many of her students going on to successful careers in journalism in cities like Columbus, Cincinnati, Washington, D.C., and New York. One of her most notable successes is her daughter, Brittany, who majored in journalism at the University of Georgia and now works for Google in New York City.
