WEST GEAUGA, Ohio-Brandon Morrissette, a 19-year-old student at West Geauga High School, has been sentenced to 8 to 12 years in prison for attempted aggravated murder after bringing a firearm to school with the intent of carrying out a mass shooting. Morrissette was caught with a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun and three fully loaded magazines in his possession on April 3, 2023.
Despite initially claiming he only intended to harm himself, he later admitted to planning to open fire on students in the school library. Geauga Common Pleas Court Judge Carolyn Paschke handed down the sentence on May 15, including credit for time served and five years of post-release control. Morrissette pleaded guilty to attempted murder and illegal possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone in March. Geauga County Prosecutor Jim Flaiz supported the terms of the sentence.
