Free library installed at Oak Creek Elementary School

COLUMBUS, Ohio-At Oak Creek Elementary School, a unique free library in the form of a bench was recently installed, inspired by a book read by third graders. Teacher Roy Jacobsen collaborated with Eagle Scout Bheem Vattikuti, who led the project. Bheem and his father developed blueprints based on a fifth grader’s drawing, and with help from former scouts, friends, and family, they constructed the library bench. Unlike traditional book-sharing boxes, this bench allows books to be stored below. Bheem dedicated over 100 hours to the project, including 50 hours of planning, and enjoyed mentoring younger scouts during the process. The bench promotes reading and community service, embodying the values of the Eagle Scouts beyond outdoor activities.
