Juvenile Court Judge Addresses Growing Frustration Over Handling of Suspects

CINCINNATI, Ohio-After a brutal attack on a Metro bus in Colerain Township involving teenagers, three suspects were arrested but promptly released from the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.

Judge Kari Bloom of the Hamilton County Juvenile Court emphasizes the court’s focus on rehabilitation and community safety. The Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police criticizes the juvenile court system, citing a perceived lack of accountability. Judge Bloom stresses that decisions regarding detention and release are made case-by-case, considering factors like the child’s development and the potential negative effects of incarceration. The law mandates individual determinations for each case, prohibiting standardized decisions based on charges.
