Juvenile Murder Suspect Allowed to Leave Covington Before His Arrest in Cincinnati

April 16th, 2024-COVINGTON, Ohio-In Covington, Kentucky, a juvenile murder suspect, wanted for allegedly killing a 21-year-old college student, was briefly questioned and released by police despite an outstanding national murder warrant against him. The suspect, identified as a 17-year-old, was accused of stealing a gun from his girlfriend’s mother.

Covington police officers interacted with him but did not run a background check, allowing him to leave. It was only later that dispatchers informed officers about the murder warrant. The suspect was subsequently tracked down and arrested by Cincinnati police. Covington Police defended their actions, stating that they lacked probable cause to detain him and that running background checks on every individual encountered is impractical. The investigation into the murder case continues, with no other arrests made yet.
