TOLEDO, Ohio-Two families have filed federal lawsuits against Toledo Public Schools (TPS) and district administrators, alleging abuse and assault of their children with disabilities at Spring Elementary and Robinson Elementary in 2023. The lawsuits accuse TPS of failing to meet statewide standards for including and accommodating students with disabilities in education.
One suit claims that a special education teacher at Spring Elementary, Garrett Pelz, threw a student across the classroom, while another alleges that a paraprofessional at Robinson Elementary, Stanley Hill, knocked a student’s head into a desk, causing injury. Both incidents resulted in legal action citing violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, excessive force, due process rights, and failure to comply with civil rights laws.
