ELYRIA, Ohio-Elyria’s Mel Rainey, an art teacher at Elyria High School, is currently leading in his region for the America’s Favorite Teacher competition, organized by Reader’s Digest and Colossal in support of Teach for America.
The competition offers a $25,000 prize, a trip to Hawaii, and a feature in Reader’s Digest for the winner. Rainey plans to use the prize money to support others and fulfill his dream of building an art studio at home, enabling him to focus more on creating his own artwork. Voting for the competition ends tonight at 10 PM.
