Ongoing Disputes Distract Columbus School Board From Focusing on Education, Parents Say

Parents are expressing concern that these controversies distract the board from prioritizing students’ education, with one parent stating that the board’s focus appears to be misplaced. The recent state report cards, which rated CCS two out of five stars for the second consecutive year, have heightened worries about the district’s performance and potential school closures. Marcy Fleisher, a public relations expert, criticized the board’s inability to operate cohesively, suggesting they should concentrate on improving educational outcomes rather than internal drama. Columbus Education Association President John Coneglio echoed these sentiments, lamenting the board’s focus on self-preservation instead of public service, while emphasizing that educators remain committed to their students amid the chaos. The district has not responded to requests for comments on these issues.
