Parents React to New Ohio Law on Cell Phones in Schools

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed a new school cell phone law, sparking speculation among parents about its impact. Some schools, like Hughes STEM High School, already enforce strict phone policies, which parents view positively for reducing bullying and improving graduation rates. Lt. Gov. Jon Husted has prioritized addressing cell phone usage among children.

While the bill passed without opposition, communities and schools are urged to tailor policies to their needs. The Ohio Department of Education plans to develop a model for districts, with exceptions for medical conditions and individualized plans. Schools must implement policies by July 1, 2025.
