Renovations Begin June 10 to Turn ‘old’ Franklin High School into Junior High

FRANKLIN, Ohio-Construction crews will be busy at the former Franklin High School this summer as the school district progresses with its building project. Superintendent Michael Sander announced that renovations to convert the former high school into an updated junior high school will begin on June 10, with crews working double shifts to expedite the completion.

The renovation project, costing nearly $2.07 million, will include asbestos abatement, new flooring, wall replacements, painting, technology upgrades, exterior signage, safety enhancements, and a new playground. Restroom renovations and lighting upgrades are scheduled for later dates due to material backlogs.

The district is transitioning to a grade-level building configuration, with elementary students being redistributed among existing and modular facilities. Following the completion of the junior high school renovations, the district will proceed with building three new elementary schools, funded by a bond issue approved by voters in November 2020. This approval also triggers state funding for the project, covering 57% of the overall $130 million cost.
