Visually Literate Students Celebrated

SCIOTO, Ohio-The Visually Literate Closing Reception recently celebrated local high school art students’ achievements at the Appleton Gallery in Shawnee State University. Over 200 attendees gathered to recognize the students’ work, with juror Darren Baker delivering a keynote presentation.

The show displayed various categories of art, and Noelle Smith of Valley High School received Best of Show for her hand-sewn gown titled “Flower Gown.” Several students received First, Second, and Third Place awards, along with Honorable Mentions. Additionally, Shelby Gillum of Wheelersburg High School received a $1,000 scholarship from Shawnee State University. The event also honored students who participated in the Memory Project, a nonprofit initiative creating portraits for children worldwide facing significant challenges.
