CINCINNATI, Ohio-A four-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition due to severe malnourishment allegedly caused by his mother, Tracey Reese, and Johnnie Perkins, who acted as his guardian. Both are facing felony child endangering charges.
The child, brought to Children’s Hospital on May 24, was unresponsive and severely underweight with a distended belly, showing signs of refeeding syndrome, a serious complication when reintroducing food to malnourished individuals. Medical examinations ruled out underlying medical conditions as the cause of his condition, according to court documents.
