AKRON, Ohio-Akron Public Schools is considering whether to continue suspending its uniform policy for grades K-8 for another school year due to the financial strains caused by the pandemic. A recent survey sent to parents indicates that about 60% are in favor of another year without uniforms.
While the administration seeks to rewrite the policy, it acknowledges that the process could take time, so they’re proceeding with creating a parent handbook for the fall without waiting for a long-term policy revision. Board members appreciate the opportunity to review dress code policies, but some parents found the survey confusing. Voting “yes” on the survey means to continue suspending the policy, while “no” would bring back uniforms. The survey was distributed via email to Akron families, administrators, and a group of students.
