Parents can face fines for kid’s criminal behavior under new law in Euclid

The “parental responsibility” law passed last month by Euclid City Council goes into effect Wednesday.

The new law is meant to hold parents accountable when their child commits a crime.

A parent can face up to $500 in fines if they knowingly fail to supervise their child who commits a crime.

The goal of the legislation, according to Euclid lawmakers, is to deter violence by first formally notifying the parent or legal guardian of the child’s criminal activity in hopes it will be addressed at home.
