WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio -A Miami Trace Middle School student was taken into custody on Tuesday morning after deputies discovered an airsoft gun at the school. The situation began when a student reported seeing a weapon, prompting a shelter-in-place order for all students. The school resource officer detained the 12-year-old suspect and found the airsoft gun in his backpack. After confirming the weapon was an airsoft gun, deputies cleared the school and ensured all students were safe. The suspect was charged with illegal conveyance or possession of an object that resembles a firearm in a school safety zone and taken to the South Central Ohio Juvenile Detention Center. Classes resumed as normal afterward.
