BELMONT Ohio-The Union Local School District’s bond issue was rejected last November, prompting the district to revise it significantly. Superintendent Dr. Zac Shutler stated that they reduced the original $62 million proposal to $34 million based on community feedback from a survey of 300 respondents. The survey showed strong opposition to athletic improvements but support for essential infrastructure updates, such as security enhancements, plumbing repairs, sidewalk and asphalt repairs, new roofs, and HVAC systems. Shutler emphasized the importance of providing a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff, noting that the district hasn’t received new funding since 1991. He expressed hope that voters will support the revised bond, which aims to address essential needs for the district’s sustainability.
