The child’s mother, Rabyah Muballigh, was arrested and indicted on charges of felony assault and child endangerment. The girl, weighing only 16 pounds, was discovered covered in bed bug bites but alive.
The apartment was in deplorable condition, with trash, stains, and infestations of animals and insects. Muballigh was arrested, and the child was taken to the hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing to determine if others were aware of the situation. The child is now in state custody, with her condition slowly improving, though she faces a long recovery journey.
