A total of five people, including some children, were taken to hospitals after a car went into a pond in West Jefferson Thursday evening. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said troopers went to the area of US-40 and Park West Drive at 6:28 p.m. after a car went into a pond. The vehicle was headed westbound on US-40 when it went off the right side of the roadway and into a retention pond near Park West Drive. It initially floated but then sank slowly.
