COLUMBUS, Ohio-Columbus City Schools acknowledges receiving rumors about videos depicting animal torture involving teacher Ronald Bedra years before his federal case went to court. Reports surfaced in March 2022, but Bedra remained in the classroom until shortly before pleading guilty in April of that year.
Bedra had been featured positively in a student publication, but disturbing comments emerged about his enjoyment of animal suffering. Federal agents tracked Bedra in June 2021 for distributing videos of monkeys being tortured. Despite reports to administrators, Bedra remained in his position until his guilty plea. The school district confirmed the exchange of concerned text messages between a teacher and a vice principal in 2022.
