Cincinnati Area Schools Could see Budget cuts After Levy Initiatives Fail

MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio- Several local school districts in Ohio saw success with levies, including Mariemont, Wyoming, and Monroe, which will receive new funding. However, Mt. Healthy, Princeton, and Milford schools faced setbacks, as their levies failed. Mt. Healthy Schools, already in fiscal emergency with a $10 million deficit, had hoped the levy would help stabilize finances. Superintendent Dr. Valerie Hawkins emphasized the district’s struggle to avoid layoffs, as staff salaries make up the largest part of the budget. She cited a previous administration’s accounting error as a major contributor to the deficit. The district had already made significant cuts, including laying off 80 staff members earlier this year.
