CLEVELAND, Ohio-Jayrion Church, who previously shot a Cleveland police detective in March 2023, now faces aggravated murder charges for a shooting that occurred two months earlier. Church, currently serving a two-decade prison sentence for the detective’s shooting, potentially faces life imprisonment for the killing of Tysean James on January 24, 2023.
James was fatally shot outside Quincy Gas on Community College Avenue. Church’s arraignment is scheduled for June 5 in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Another individual, Isaiah Wilson, was indicted in February for his involvement in the shooting. Church’s previous crime involved shooting Detective Mark Bahrijczuk during a police stop in March 2023, resulting in serious injuries to the detective. Church pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated murder and related charges, receiving a 20-25 year prison sentence earlier this year.
