Doctors warn parents to stay alert as children face risks in extreme heat

Doctors are asking parents and anyone else who looks after children to be especially alert in the kind of June heat that has developed in recent days. “Kids deal with thermoregulation, that is how they manage exposure to heat, differently than adults,” said Dr. Brad Sobolewiski. “Preschool children and under don’t recognize that they’re hot. They don’t recognize that they’re thirsty. They really rely on their parents and caregivers to see that they’re getting overheated.”
