COLUMBUS, Ohio-State Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) has introduced Senate Bill 329 to improve the safety of children traveling to and from school. The bill aims to raise awareness of school bus safety laws by imposing a $300 civil penalty for drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses. The majority of the fine will fund school bus safety initiatives, including grants for school districts to enhance bus safety features and public education efforts. The bill also designates August as “School Bus Safety Month” to promote road safety awareness as the school year begins.
