LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio-Mia Harris, a 43-year-old woman from Liberty Township, has changed her plea to guilty for shooting her 6-month-old granddaughter. The incident occurred on December 9, 2023, when Harris reportedly shot at family members before intentionally shooting the infant. Initially pleading not guilty by reason of insanity, Harris has now pleaded guilty to one count of felonious assault with a firearm specification. The attack involved Harris dragging a family member out of bed, causing others to lock themselves in a room with the baby. Harris then shot at the child’s mother, grazing her head, before shooting the infant. After the shooting, Harris fled the scene, driving the wrong way on I-75 before returning home where she was arrested. When questioned about her motive, Harris allegedly said, “That was not my grandbaby” and “Sorry, not sorry.”
Harris is scheduled to return to court on October 29.
