The discovery occurred around 10:30 a.m. when security found the weapon while searching a student’s backpack after noticing students passing a vape. Community members expressed concern for student safety, with one former student calling the situation unacceptable. The student has been charged with two felonies: bringing a gun to school and concealed carry. In light of the incident, the Mount Healthy police chief noted ongoing worries about school safety, particularly since the district has been without weapon detection technology for three years, despite earlier reports of its intended installation.
