West argues that having fewer officers for ten schools could strain public safety by diverting resources from regular street patrols, increasing stress on the police force. The city council approved a new contract with the school district to provide five SROs, with the district covering all costs. This is one fewer officer than in previous years, and while West acknowledges the concern, he notes that not approving the contract would leave the schools with only three SROs, as one of the previous contracts was set to expire.
