COLUMBUS, Ohio-Krieg Butler, a 38-year-old man, was sentenced to six months in jail and three years of community control for the October 2022 shooting death of 13-year-old Sinzae Reed at Wedgewood Village Apartments in Columbus. Initially charged with murder, Butler claimed he acted in self-defense, stating that Reed shot at him first. Witnesses supported Butler’s claim, and while no gun was found on Reed, witnesses said someone moved a gun before police arrived. Prosecutors dropped the murder charge, and Butler was indicted for improperly handling a firearm and tampering with evidence. He pleaded guilty to both felonies, and the judge warned of a longer sentence if Butler violates the terms of his sentence.
