BATAVIA, Ohio-A man was sentenced to seven years in prison for his involvement in the death of his daughter, who died due to extreme malnutrition. Less than three weeks prior, the girl’s mother, Tamara Banks, received a nine-year sentence for the same incident. The man, guilty of involuntary manslaughter, was found responsible for his daughter’s death from diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition affecting people with diabetes.
Prosecutors alleged that the parents primarily fed the girl Mountain Dew through a baby bottle, resulting in severe tooth decay. The child was discovered unresponsive on January 21, 2022, and was declared brain dead upon arrival at the hospital, leading to the decision to remove her from life support.
