COLUMBUS, Ohio-Tayeshawn Gavin, formerly homeless, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault charges for the March 11, 2022, shooting of 18-year-old Chaz Fleming near Easton Town Center. Franklin County Common Pleas Court sentenced Gavin to a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 23½ years in prison.
Columbus police responded to a shooting inside a car, finding Fleming dead and another person injured. Gavin initially faced murder charges, but a plea deal led to the dismissal of some charges. Fleming’s brother, Charles Fleming, currently facing unrelated murder charges, reportedly stabbed Gavin multiple times in retaliation.
