Monroe Local School District Seeks Levy for New High School

MONROE, Ohio -Monroe Local School District faces significant space constraints, with classrooms operating at 124% of their intended capacity, forcing students to eat in hallways and attend classes in converted supply closets. To address this, Superintendent Robert Buskirk is proposing a new bond levy on the November ballot to fund the construction of a new high school. The proposed levy will not increase taxpayer rates, as it will replace an existing bond levy from 2001 that expires in 2029. The new levy has a slightly lower effective millage rate, resulting in a minimal tax decrease of about $1 per $100,000 of appraised home value. The district has also secured $25.3 million in state funding for the new building, contingent on passing the bond levy. Despite leveling enrollment, the need for additional space remains critical for the district’s growth and program development.
