HARRISON, Ohio-Southwest Local Schools has partnered with the nonprofit City of Refuge to raise $300,000 to support students and families in need. Rosanne Moore, care director at Church on Fire, highlighted the growing challenges families face, including mental health issues and financial struggles. The initiative, called ‘Warriors of Compassion,’ aims to provide essential resources, including food, clothing, and mental health services, through fundraising efforts like raffles and donations. Superintendent John Hamstra emphasized the importance of addressing basic needs before students can succeed academically, as many come from traumatic backgrounds and experience severe poverty.
