FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio-With rising school threats in Northeast Ohio and nationwide, school resource officers are essential for campus safety. The Fairview Park School District has recently hired its first school resource officer, Patrolman Kevin McLaughlin, a 2008 graduate of Fairview High School. McLaughlin noted that school safety has evolved significantly, with locked doors now being standard. Students Julia Gordon and J.R. Beato expressed that McLaughlin’s presence makes them feel safer and more protected. McLaughlin emphasizes the importance of building trust with students so they feel comfortable approaching him with concerns.
