COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio is suing Columbus City Schools (CCS) over its new bus policy affecting charter and private school students. The lawsuit, filed by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, accuses CCS of failing to provide timely notice about changes in transportation services and of not adhering to legal requirements. The state wants the Ohio Supreme Court to compel CCS to continue transporting these students while mediation is arranged. Superintendent Angela Chapman acknowledged the issue but stated that CCS’s policy aligns with Ohio law, noting that their outreach could have been better. The district’s delay in notifying families and the policy’s impact have created transportation problems for many students, with some parents and charter schools facing significant challenges. Families can request mediation or challenge the “impractical” designation, and CCS will either provide transportation or offer compensation if they cannot transport the student.
